St. Baldrick's Foundation
Shaving the Way to Conquer Kids' Cancer
The IMT Group has begun a relationship with the St. Baldrick's Foundation in sponsoring 5 employees who volunteered to be shavees and raise funds to save lives.
The St. Baldrick's Foundation is the single largest source of funding for children's cancer research outside of the US Government, funding more than $12 million in 2009! To put it into perspective, 160,000 children are diagnosed with cancer worldwide each year, with cancer being the number one disease killer of children in the US and Canada. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation has had more than 106,000 volunteers shave their heads at 2,400 events in 50 states and 24 countries to date!
IMT’s home office employees teamed up to raise awareness and funds to cure kids’ cancer by participating in a local St. Baldrick’s Foundation shaving event, coordinated by Farmer's Mutual Hail. The event was held March 2, 2010 at the Funny Bone in West Des Moines. Click here for more pictures of the 2010 event.
Thank you to our shavees, employees, agents, family and friends who contributed to this event. Together we raised over $17,800 for St. Baldrick's! Thank you for your support!

Reflection - It was a great feeling to go up on stage and know how much money could be raised just to shave your head. I was incredibly proud to work for a company with so many caring individuals! To raise as much as we did with such short notice was a great accomplishment.

Reflection - Wow! What a tremendous response from an amazing group of people here at IMT. All five of us easily attained our goal of $1,500 thanks to some very creative and competitive fundraising efforts. Thanks to the Generation Y Committee for rallying us behind children’s cancer research and spreading awareness about the St. Baldrick’s foundation. I look forward to making this event even bigger next year!

I shaved my head because I care about the kids. Cancer is a hard thing to deal with as an adult let alone a child. I’ve had family and friends who have had cancer and it is tough to see. I’ve seen those who have the fight of a warrior and it is something to behold… it is the kind of spirit some only wish they had.
I don’t have any kids of my own, but I love my niece and nephew dearly, and would not want to see them go through anything even close to what the kids with cancer go through. It’s a serious disease and with our donations hopefully we can get that much closer to a cure and help these kids lead a hope filled life.

Reflection - BURR – it may be warming up outside, but without hair it is still a little chilly after the big event! What a wonderful event for IMT to be partnered with. Not only was a lot of money raised for children’s cancer research, but the awareness of a wonderful organization is beginning to spread. Although I was a little nervous, it was a lot of fun to be at an event with friends and co-workers in a common mission. I can’t wait to be involved next year.

Reflection - AMAZING!! The St. Baldrick’s event was something that I will never forget. Sitting on stage and getting my own head shaved, while seeing the reactions of others, is an unexplainable feeling. Just knowing how much was put into this event and to see it be such a great success, puts a smile on my face. It is a great way to give back to others and support the young children. Thank you to all of those that supported, donated, and helped for this wonderful cause. I must say though, it is a bit breezy up there without any hair!
